♦ Attorneys or insurance companies interested in obtaining police reports for DISCOVERY should send a DISCOVERY REQUEST LETTER or an ACCIDENT REPORT REQUEST LETTER to:
The College of New Jersey
Office of Campus Police Services
P.O. Box 7718
Ewing, NJ 08628
ATTN: Records
All requests for discovery by attorneys or insurance companies must be made in writing and must be made on the official letterhead of the firm or individual making the request.

*Copies of police reports will not be processed without a written or electronic request. It is the responsibility of the involved parties to make this request in writing or via our online form. Be prepared to present photo identification when picking up your report.

It takes approximately 7 to 15 business days (excludes weekends and closures) for standard report requests to be processed from the time the TCNJPD administrative assistant receives both the report and the request. The administrative assistant does not have immediate access to all police reports.

Processing times will vary with the amount of research required, the accuracy and amount of information provided on the request form, the volume of requests, current administrative workload, and the status of the record(s) being requested. Please note: reports more than 3 years old are archived. Archived files require additional processing time.

To avoid unnecessary delays in processing your request, provide the TCNJPD case number (police report number) on your request form. Please also include the incident date, location and officer information, so the administrative assistant can conduct a prompt, thorough search for your case information. Incomplete, inaccurate, broad, vague and voluminous requests require additional research and processing time, which creates or exacerbates administrative backlog.

Copies of privileged/confidential police reports cannot be sent by fax or email. Reports can be picked up at the TCNJPD operations service window. If you have provided an email address, you will receive a courtesy notification via email when your copy is ready to be picked up. In most instances and upon request, reports can be mailed to the home address TCNJPD has on file for the involved parties.  If you are a party named in the report and would prefer to receive your report by mail, please use the Comments/Additional Information section of the request form.

The Office of General Counsel is responsible for coordinating open public record (OPRA) requests.
